A Terre Haute woman is behind bars and faces serious charges in the death of her infant son after she allegedly neglected to feed him.
On March 12, officers of the Terre Haute Police Department were called to Regional Hospital regarding the death of an infant boy. Officers learned the infant was transported to the hospital from 2940 Ijams Drive in Terre Haute.
The boy’s mother, 38-year-old Tabetha Smith, told 911 that the her son appeared to be having trouble breathing. He was rushed to the hospital where attempts to treat the infant was unsuccessful and died at the hospital.
Investigators learned the infant was 3 months old and was medically required to have a feeding tube.
On Tuesday, April 10, investigators received the autopsy from the Vigo County Coroner’s office which indicate the cause of death as severe dehydration with a manner of death listed as homicide.
On Friday, April 13th, police went to conduct an interview with Smith and later she was arrested on charges of neglect of a dependent resulting in death.
Smith remains in the Vigo County Jail.
