MARSHALL, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A woman in Parke County, Ind., was charged with neglect and other offenses Monday after deputies found five children had been unattended in a hotel room, according to a sheriff’s office report.

Parke County deputies along with EMS arrived around 7:30 a.m. to the lawn near the entrance of Turkey Run Inn to find 25-year-old Pearl Mendoza of Demotte, Ind., breathing but unresponsive on the ground, the report says. Upon waking her up, officers took Mendoza to her hotel room where police say they found five children ranging from 3 to 9 years old left unattended inside the room.

Child services was immediately called, as the report said the room conditions were “not favorable.” According to the report, Mendoza then resisted arrest, tried to escape and attempted to assault an officer.

She was facing charges of resisting law enforcement, attempted battery on law enforcement, neglect of a dependent, disorderly conduct, public intoxication and misuse of a 911 system.
