VIGO COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — This week we announced the winner of our Remarkable Women Contest as Dr. Janie Myers.
Dr. Myers is a local surgeon and the Vigo County coroner. For winning the contest, Dr. Myers received a $1,000 check to donate to a non-profit of her choice and she chose the Recovery Cafe in Terre Haute.
It provides people in recovery with peer-based services, community meals, and recovery circles. Dr. Myers said that the pandemic put an emphasis on mental health.
When she thought about how to help people with mental health, the Recovery Cafe kept coming to mind.
“They do a lot for people who are trying to start their life back over again,” dr. Myers said. “A lot of stuff can be fixed if you have that support and you know where to go,” Dr. Myers said.
“We’re all recovering from something. It’s basically the journey away from whatever keeps us from being our best, truest selves,” said Lindsey Skelton, Recovery Cafe director.
