Today, the first ever Kid’s Day was held at Dewey Point.
The event allowed third graders from all three West Vigo Elementary schools to take part in hands-on science activities.
These activities included using microscopes, learning about plants and animals, and creating bottle ecosystems.
The event was put on by eight students at West Vigo High School.
West Vigo science teacher Lora Kane says this event has allowed children to learn much more than they could in a classroom.
“To get them out of the classroom and bring them to an area like dewey point where they can see nature and how it actually affects them, and how it relates to them, and what they can do with it, I think it really opens their eyes,” Kane said.
Kane says there are plans to make this an annual event.
