VIGO Co., Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) –Visitors had a slithering good time Sunday at the Wabash Valley Fairgrounds in Terre Haute, during the Wabash Valley Exotic Pet Expo.

The exotic pet expo featured over 1,000 animals, from snakes, to mice, to parrots.

According to organizers, around ten vendors set up at the expo, selling the animals and also educating those who stopped by.

They said all the animals at the expo are raised.

The expo is put on for those who want a pet, that may not be of the traditional kind.

“Everybody has dogs and cats but today’s society with apartments and condominiums, a lot of them don’t want you to have dogs or cats but they have no problem with you having a little cage with a pet in it. That started to grow with having mice and bunnies and chinchillas, hedgehogs and now it’s snakes and lizards and birds. So it’s a growing trend basically,” said organizer, Ron Billingsley.

The expo happens every three months and will be back in Terre Haute in December.
