Efforts to improve voter turnout in Indiana might be a little closer to becoming a reality. This, after a committee at the Indiana statehouse approved a measure that is designed to streamline voter registration.
On Wednesday, by a vote of 13 to nothing, a modified version of house bill 1178 was passed by the House Elections and Apportionment committee. The bill will enable Hoosiers to register to vote when they obtain or renew their driver’s license, permit or I.D. Card.
State representative Clyde Kersey from Terre Haute calls today’s passage, a step in the right direction.
The bill will now move to the House floor for further consideration. Indiana’s voter turnout was the 11th worst in 2016 and the lowest in 2014.
