Indiana State University joined forces with TREES Inc. on Monday to wrap 1,200 seedlings purchased from the state’s tree nursery.
Volunteers labeled each seedling with instructions and a description of the tree.
They’ll hand them out to folks attending spring events like Earth Day or Arbor Day.
Organizers chose nine different species of trees, ones that will help diversify the tree canopy in our community.
“We have a lot of maple trees that are getting old and we have different diseases like the ash borer coming through, so we try to diversify so that we have a wide variety of trees and we don’t ever have to live without them,” says Stephanie Krull, the Landscaping Grounds Manager at ISU and the head of the Seedling Committee for TREES Inc.
Seedlings will be given away at ISU’s Earth Day celebration which is on Wednesday, April 18 from 11 A.M. to 2 P.M. on the quad.
