Volunteers become Santas to a seniors

TERRE HAUTE Ind. (WAWV/WTWO) — One local organization is making a difference this holiday season by giving back to those in need of a little Christmas cheer.

Home Instead Senior Care held their annual ‘Be a Santa to a senior’ program at their facilities in Terre Haute.

Wednesday volunteers with the organization were asked to wrap donated gifts at their holiday wrapping party.

Community members were asked to donate lotions, pajamas, blankets and even stuffed animals. Each gift will be delivered this upcoming holiday to senior citizens.

Tracy Maynard, one of the organization’s volunteers, said wrapping gifts and delivering them is the least she can do.

“If you have a grandparent that you love and that you care about, pick up the phone, go visit them, make sure they have what they need, said Maynard. “Encourage your neighbor to do the same thing. Hopefully it will all come full circle and and everybody will take care of everybody.”

The annual campaign helps seniors with little to no family feel included during Christmas.
