KNOX Co., Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Vincennes officials said they saw around a million visitors each year. Now, the Vincennes Knox Tourism & Visitors Bureau is expanding with a new building.
According to Executive Director Shyla Beam, this project is two decades in the making.
“We’re here for the visitors. That’s our mission. And to promote Vincennes and Knox County, to bring people in to experience it for themselves,” said VTB Administrative Assistant Loretta Day.
Day is the person to help visitors organize their visit.
“We connect to them and try to get them information on the area, city maps, our visitors guide, of course,” Day said.
Beam said Vincennes and Knox county draws in many visitors from across the region.
“People come from Indiana, Illinois, Ohio, Kentucky. So I think we’re a great location off of 64 and 70,” Beam said.
In order to accommodate their constant growth in visitors, they said it’s finally time for a new building.
“I’ve been working on it for about 13 years. And we relocated to this location in 2009 and found out really quickly that it was going to be too small,” Beam said.
Their new building will still be in a very familiar place.
“After many years of searching and not finding the right building, we’ve decided that it would be best to build on site where we currently are,” said Beam.
It will allow them more space and features to create the best visitor experience they can give.
“We’ll be able to expand what we have for sale, which are t-shirts, sweatshirts, a few other things and have some nice displays,” Day said.
While a construction timeline is not set, cost estimates are being worked out.
The VTB’s executive director said they hope to have the new center done by early next year.
