A Vincennes man accused of murdering his 5-year-old son is expected to plead guilty, but mentally ill.
Robert Baldwin’s change of plea hearing is set for June 10.
According to the prosecutor’s office, they are not asking for a sentence of life without parole, because they are no longer entitled to such request.
While life without parole is off the table, Baldwin still faces 45 to 65 years in prison.
Baldwin has a long history of treatment for mental illness.
The notation of mental illness does not change the potential sentence. It could, however, impact how Baldwin would be housed by the Department of Corrections.
