TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – Vigo County Schools will not be in session on November 19th as the school corporation takes part in Red for Ed Action Day.
Educators from nearly 50 school corporations across the state are taking part in the day of action at the Indiana Statehouse, advocating for teacher salary raises.
According to the Vigo County School Corporation, many educators in Vigo County have requested personal days to take part in Red for Ed Day.
Therefore, Vigo County Schools will have a snow day on Tuesday, November 19. The school district will make the day up on its first snow makeup day on Friday, February 14.
Administrative offices will remain open.
The school corporation is giving students a letter to take home Friday, that reads in part
“Our teachers are charged to care for our community’s most precious gifts: our children,” said Dr. Rob Haworth, Superintendent. “In over 50 community meetings, we mentioned that teachers don’t enter the profession to be rich, but they do deserve a salary that is more competitive with neighboring states. We support our educators as they call for education to be the top priority in the 2020 Legislative Session.”
The school corporation says it apologizes for any inconvenience the November 19 snow day may cause.
