Vigo County School officials host public hearing regarding 2020 budget

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – Monday, Vigo County School officials held a public hearing about the upcoming budget.

Officials estimate the 2020 budget at more than $162 million dollars, but said they try to aim on the high side.

That’s because of uncertainties regarding assessed value and tax collections.

The budget includes $106 million in the education fund and $44 million in operations.

Just over $1.5 million is earmarked for a rainy day fund.

Superintendent Rob Haworth says one goal for the school corporation is to receive a maximum levy.

“Failure to get the maximum levy in a district that has tax caps really means that money could be left on the table,” Haworth said.

The board will vote on the budget on October 21st.

It must also be approved by the state before it’s official.
