TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – The Vigo County School Corporation introduces a new resource to keep the community informed on COVID-19 cases.
Beginning this week, the school corporation will launch a COVID-19 dashboard that will include weekly updates of the school year.
Dr. Rob Haworth says during his time as superintendent for the Vigo County School Corporation he has learned that communication and transparency is of great importance to the community.
“Usually what we like to do is that we like to tell the academic stories, the spell bowl stories, the science fair stories,” Haworth said.
But in 2020, Haworth says the school corporation will have another story they must share.
“Unfortunately, now we have to tell a COVID-19 story,” Haworth said.
To ensure parents, students, and the community are informed on what is happening in regards to the virus, Monday, Haworth announced that Vigo County schools will introduce a COVID-19 dashboard.
This will include information such as positive cases on school grounds and how many staff and students are actively quarantining.
“Expect every Wednesday the dashboard to be presented, so you can see what’s happening in our district,” Haworth said.
In addition to offering a broad view of the COVID-19 situation within Vigo County Schools, Haworth says the dashboard will be used by a task force for decision making.
“Does a third grade have to go into quarantine for 3 weeks? Does an individual building need to go remote?” Haworth said.
The dashboard will not include a school by school break down but Haworth says school officials do plan to keep families updated as much as possible.
“We could get into HIPAA violations by narrowing our information but we do intend to allow parents and staff members to have a closer look at that data, but it would be much more intimate,” Haworth said.
The community can access the dashboard starting on Wednesday, August 26th.
