TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — The CDC reversed some of its previously stated mask guidelines this week, announcing Tuesday that it now recommends all vaccinated people should return to wearing masks indoors in parts of the country where the virus is surging.

The agency is citing new information regarding the Delta variant’s ability to spread among those even vaccinated against COVID-19 and is now changing masking guidelines accordingly. Scientists are now suggesting all teachers, staff and students, as well as visitors at schools, wear masks regardless of vaccination status.

The Vigo County School Board recently approved its plan to reopen schools with regards to the COVID-19 virus, a plan that does not require masks in schools. School Director of Communications Bill Riley released the statement below following the CDC’s announcement.

“We will continue to discuss our plan with local health care leaders as we approach our Aug. 16 start date. We are closely reviewing all recommendations and data to inform our plan.”
