VIGO COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) Vigo County School Corporation is one step closer to choosing an architect. The board met Tuesday Night to discuss the remaining three companies that could renovate the three high schools and more.
“I think each board member was able to express the pros and cons of each firm that we had in front of us,” Superintendent Dr. Robert Haworth said
Tuesday night members of the Vigo County School Board met to discuss the future of the schools, to an empty room.
The conversation was laid back as the board deliberated over which company the corporation should hire.
Over the past few months the board has been meeting with architect firms and narrowed the choice down to three.
Those three firms, Schmidt/Lake, Fanning Howey, UNESCO.
The board is looking for a firm which will develop plans for the corporation’s buildings.
“For the architect it’s not just about just to focus on the high schools,” Haworth said. “The goal is to look at all of our buildings and give them an evaluation.”
After the firm is chosen the company will work with the corporation to hold public meetings to hear what improvements residents want for their schools and soon after start on the projects.
“It experiences in the state is important,” Haworth said. “I think you heard that communication with our community is important and I think taking those things into consideration does paint a picture for me in terms of maybe a way to bring my recommendation on Monday.”
- Haworth is set to give his recommendation to the school board Monday night. Haworth told WTWO that he hopes the public meetings will start in June or July.
