Vigo County: No personal information compromised in ransomware computer attack

News

TERRE HAUTE Ind. (WAWV/WTWO)– A malware virus has targeted the Vigo County government, and more importantly, their computer system.

Officials suspect the cyber criminals locked their information in trade for money or ransom.

Authorities call it ransomware, and although the Vigo County Commissioner’s office hasn’t received the notice, they expect one soon.

Vigo County Commissioner Brad Anderson, said he expects the issue will take at least a week to resolve. The IT department has been working non-stop since Tuesday completing tedious computer searches.

He said he does not expect them to pay a ransom, and that at this time no personal information has been compromised.
