VIGO Co., Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A group called Vigo County Mutual aid was formed this year to help those impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
On Saturday morning they held their first coat drive.
The community was asked to drop off spare coats and other winter items at Westminster village.
Those who gave were entered into a raffle in exchange for their donation.
Group member said they want people to know help is out there, especially in this hard time.
“We really truly belong to each other. These are scary times for a lot of reasons and frankly we should be doing this all the time. Coronavirus or not. So this is just an opportunity to demonstrate how much we care for one another,” said Tina Simmons, the group’s founder.
Another coat drive will be held on October 24 at Baesler’s Market in Terre Haute.
