The fundraising campaign continues for a local historical museum as it makes the move to a new location.
The move has been years in the making, and Wednesday the group became one step closer to reaching its goal.
The Vigo County Historical Society and Museum received a $30,000 grant from the Old National Foundation.
The money will help with construction costs and moving expenses from it’s current location on South 6th Street to the new building on Wabash Avenue.
Organizers have been working to raise $3 million since 2012.
Those in attendance got a sneak peek of the new location.
The society first opened in 1958 and since then has prided itself on sharing Vigo County history.
“History is relevant because we need to know what happened in our past and how things happened, how solutions were found for different problems, so we can be inspired and learn to solve our problems today and be able to work toward our future,” Vigo County Historical Society development director Susan Tingley said.
