VIGO Co., Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — The Vigo County budget committee .. is making big progress … Ahead of the approval of the 2021 budget.

Currently, the committee has approved the hiring of two sheriff’s deputies, pending funding from a grant.

Longevity pay for current deputies and other county employees was also approved.

The committee also approved the funding for a court reorganization program that will help keep repeat offenders out of jail.

According to officials, Vigo County’s revenue has taken a hit this year, but there’s still enough to get things done.

“I think in the state, we’re financially solid. We’re going to be hurt financially by some of these revenues going down but we’re going to weather it very well,” said County Council President Mike Morris.

The budget will be finalized once the council takes a vote on October 1.
