News

VIGO CO., Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Vigo County sheriff’s deputy Jeff Bell was placed on suspension with no pay Monday after a sheriff’s merit board meeting.

Bell was arrested earlier this month by Indiana State Police on domestic battery charges. Following the arrest, Sheriff John Plasse placed Bell on administrative leave for 15 days.

Bell is a nearly 19-year veteran with the sheriff’s department.

Four of five merit board members were present for the decision Monday via video conference, the four approved the suspension with no pay.

“If he were convicted of charges, he would not be able to be a law enforcement officer, so it is a serious charge,” Plasse said following the meeting.

According to Plasse, Bell’s suspension will be reevaluated after his court proceedings which will pick up in June.
