TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)– North Vigo High School seniors gathered on the football field to celebrate their high school accomplishments.

Ahmad Benford said he didn’t expect the ceremony to happen.

“I didn’t expect this to be this many people either out here. They were going to limit us to five people only,” he said.

Students listened to speeches from faculty and fellow classmates.

Spencer Templeton said the moment was bittersweet.

“I’m excited about finally getting to graduate. We had a tougher road than most other grades. It’s been a long time coming in the works so i’m glad we were able to do this in general,” Templeton said.

Students lined up and walked across the stage as their names were called by their student government leaders.

Karen Waldbieser said the North Vigo High School Class of 2020 should be extremely proud of themselves.

“We’re so incredibly strong with what we’ve been through and what’s been going on this year. The last part of senior year is when everything big happens and you’re in that Celebration. I’m excited to be here. I’m excited to see my friends and to talk to them and celebrate together,” she said.

In-person commencement ceremonies also took place at West Vigo and South Vigo High School.
