World War II was fought over seventy years ago but even today veterans, their families, and friends still meet up to honor their time serving our country.
Several veterans who fought on the island of Iwo Jima toured the the Ernie Pyle world war two museum this afternoon. Ernie Pyle was an award-winning journalist who was known for his work telling the stories of soldiers during World War II.
We spoke to a few veterans who told me what Ernie Pyle’s journalism and the trip to this museum meant to them.
“He was very appreciative I think of the men and what they did. He had a lot of good stories that came out” Sgt. Ivan Hammond, World War II veteran.
“He had a sense and ability to portray what was going on with the poor guy on the ground.” Billy Cawthron , World War II veteran.
The veterans will continue their reunion tomorrow by visiting the Lincoln Sites in Springfield, IL.
