Local students are honoring those who have served our country ahead of Veterans Day this weekend.
We visited Honey Creek Middle School for its Veterans Day program.
Many local schools held ceremonies on Thursday because of the holiday weekend.
The students learned about, and from, veterans.
The veterans and active service members in attendance say ceremonies like this have a very special and emotional meaning.
“For me, it’s listening to TAPS. I’ve served in the Honor Guard. I’ve been there when we’ve put people to rest. I’ve been there when families have come in, when their loved one has passed, so it’s really an emotional time to connect with the people who have just put their lives on the line,” says Senior Master Sgt. Laurie Weaver.
Indiana State Superintendent Jennifer McCormick was also in attendance. She says there is no better honor than to celebrate Veterans Day.
