VCSC Procedure To Help Prevent Financial Theft

Vigo County School Corporation staff will receive training that could prevent fraud or theft.

But officials say it has nothing to do with the FBI raid on three school district properties.

That FBI raid happened in June and resulted in the arrest of two people with ties to Vigo County schools.

Both are accused of stealing money from the school corporation.

But Monday night, board members approved an internal control standard policy.

It requires at least two people be involved in every financial transaction, from the sale of game tickets to candy.

Again, officials say it has nothing to do with the FBI investigation.

“This is a control’s policy that the State Board of Accounts is promoting statewide to simply establish procedures to help lessen the opportunity for fraud and dealing with financial transactions at all levels of a school corporation,” says Marvin Ward, temporary CFO at Vigo County School Corporation.

District principals and treasurers received training a few months ago.

Food service staff will begin training on on Wednesday.
