Vandals Strike During Bloomington National Night Out

News

One National Night Out almost didn’t happen because of vandals.

The vandals spray painted the words “Tamir Rice” on the front of a Bloomington business.

Tamir Rice was the 12 year-old boy killed by a rookie Cleveland police officer in 2014.

The vandalized business was Jumpin Joey’s, who’s owners wanted to do something to give back to the community.

Hosting National Night Out was his way to do that, while supporting local police.

I’m more disappointed than anything.  There’s no question that our business was target because of our support for local police. And so it’s just a big disappointed. I’m mean obviously the target is the police department. I mean, we’re just a small hometown business, offering a needed service to the community and we bore the brunt of it.  Again it’s unfortunate, says Chance Jeffers, a business owner.

Again, the event proceeded as scheduled.
