A few weeks ago we looked into street lamp outages along US 41 in Terre Haute.
At the time we counted close to 50 lights out from I-70 headed north to Maple Avenue. We inspected the light situation along US 41 last week and only counted around 5 lights out in that stretch. We’ve been assured that Duke Energy crews are studying lights around town to repair the outages.
Rick Burger with Duke Energy tells us crews identified 344 lights out around terre haute in late February. As of now he reports that 214 of those lights were repaired. Light poles you see with yellow tape around them indicate they await repair. Crews are shifting focus to the areas of Wabash, Poplar, Hulman, Margaret, 13th and 25th streets among others. The lights do date back to the early 1980s and the plan in a couple of years according to Mayor Duke Bennett is to replace all of the street lights.
Duke Energy is taking inventory of how many lights are in teh city. That information is expected to be released in the upcoming months.
