Two Dead After Crash North of Loogootee

Two men are dead after a two vehicle crash Wednesday morning on US 231 near Boggs lake north of Loogootee.

At 8:20 A.M. Wednesday morning, Kevin Sears, 60, of Odon, was northbound on US 231, when for an unknown reason, his 2002 Honda Civic veered into the southbound lane near County Road 700 North.

The Honda pulled directly into the path of a 2008 Dodge Avenger, driven by Zachary Greene, 29, of Loogootee.

Sear’s Honda struck Greene’s Stratus, coming to a stop almost immediately.

Sears was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Martin County Coroner. Greene and his front seat passenger were both taken to Memorial Hospital in Jasper to be treated.

The passenger was transferred to St. Vincent Hospital in Evansville where he was pronounced deceased. Notification of his passing to family is still pending at this time.

Greene was being treated for injuries to his legs and ankle.

All three vehicle occupants were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.

The crash remains under investigation by ISP crash reconstructionists at this time.

The State Police was assisted by the Martin County Sheriff’s Department, Loogootee Fire Department, and Southwest Medical.
