Terre Haute, IN - The tractor show has become one of the main attractions at the Vigo County Fair. Some of that is thanks to those who have participated in the event for decades.
Sharon Hartmann has been working on the Board of Directors of the County Fair for 40 years, many of those serving as a secretary and treasurer. Now she has the opportunity to focus on the annual tractor show.
"We average between 50 to 60 tractors usually and as you can see we have all colors and sizes so there's something for everyone." says Sharon Hartmann, Vigo County Fair board member.
Preparation for this event is a long process and it takes the effort of many people.
"The fair board works year round in order to keep everything going. We have events here year-round. We rent our facilities for weddings and receptions and corporate parties and things like that so there's always things to be done here" said Hartmann.
She has simple motivation after working the fair and tractor show for 40 years. "Being a 10-year 4-h'er and having grown up on a farm, fairs are kind of just what you do.", Hartmann.
Being right in Vigo county makes this event special for local tractor owners.
"It's just closer to home, you can make two or three trips. You go to Spencer or somewhere like that and you're limited with that you can take." says Larry Hanna, 13 year attendee.
Sometimes reasons beyond the tractors continue to bring people to this event.
"It's the people you meet that own the different types. A lot of nice people have tractors." said Hanna.
Sunday afternoon the tractor games will be held where competitors can win trophies.
