TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Three different law enforcement agencies came together Saturday for the Battle of the Badge.
The agencies all set up at different locations in Terre Haute to help the Salvation Army get to the fundraising goal of $120,000.
The Sheriff’s Deparment were located at Baesler’s, Terre Haute Police Department were located at Rural King, and the Terre Haute Fire Department were located at Kroger’s East location.
The departments all wanted to show their support for the community and give back with a good cause.
“I believe in giving back to the community, I believe in my community, and I just want to do everything that I can to be involved,” Deputy Fire Marshall of the Terre Haute Fire Department, Trevor Kelsheimer, said.
The Vigo County Sheriff’s Department was at Baesler’s from 8 a.m. until 7 p.m. Officals say every little bit helps when giving to the Salvation Army.
“It makes you feel good to volunteer some time and give back in anyway you can,” Derek Fell, Chief of Operations, said.
Terre Haute Police Department stated that even though this is a competition, the ultimate goal is to raise money for the Salvation Army.
“It’s important because it gives back to our community and our community supports us in so many different ways. This is one opportunity for us to help be out here, and be part of supporting our communities,” Shawn Keen, Chief of Police, said.
The agency that raised the most money on Saturday will be announced Tuesday. Tuesday is also the final day for the Kettle Campaign.
