It’s all high fives and belly scratches for the Terre Haute Police Department’s K9 Unit, after walking away with a couple big wins in a Olympic level competition.

Last week, three THPD K9 teams participated in the Annual K9 Olympics in Peru Indiana.

K9 Taco and handler Lance Sanders placed 1st in the “Hogan’s Alley” event and K9 Pelkes along with handler Anthony Mazzon placed 2nd in the “bomb detection” event. These two teams placed first and second out of about 55 teams from across the world.

K9 Pitts and handler Ivan Walker participated in the Olympics however did not compete because they are not “certified” yet, but still had a “dog-gone” good time.

The Terre Haute Police Department says they are proud of their K9 unit and admires the hard work that is put in day in and day out. They say they are also very appreciative of the community’s support; and recognize that without the community’s help and donations, this unit wouldn’t be nearly as successful as it is.
