A Terre Haute man died Tuesday from injuries sustained in a high speed car crash, according to Terre Haute Police Department Public Information Officer Ryan Adamson.

Monday night, a THPD officer was southbound on 13th Street at Crawford Street when he was passed by a vehicle traveling northbound at a high rate of speed. The officer activated his emergency lights and turned around, at which point the speeding vehicle was passing Poplar Street.

By the time the officer caught up to the vehicle, it had crashed at Orchard St.

The driver of the vehicle, Kem Poke, 28, of Terre Haute, was ejected from the vehicle. He was transported to a nearby hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Adamson stressed that an active police pursuit was not involved in the accident.
