TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — We are mid-way through Teacher Appreciation Week, so if you haven’t thanked an educator yet, you still have time to do so!
Bill Riley with the Vigo County School Corporation says teachers will get a free lunch provided by area businesses this week.
He says it’s an opportunity for educators to come together at the end of a difficult school year.
Riley says reflecting on this school year, educators were quick to roll with the punches, including accelerating a new technology plan.
Students were expected to use chrome books over a five year strategic plan, but students and teachers had to learn the technology in 11 months amid remote learning.
“They did all this in a pandemic and they didn’t skip a beat. The schedule, we were two days a week for students, then we were four days a week for some students, elementary has been five days a week, just all the changes they’ve gone through this year and the way they’ve handled that with grace and with a real focus on our students, it can’t be mentioned enough, we are so appreciative of their work,” VCSC communication director, Bill Riley, said.
During the school year, teachers and staff are highlighted on VCSC’s social media pages. Principals at each school suggest which educators deserve a nod.
