It’s been a three year process for the Terre Haute Police Department to update over 100 of their policies throughout each department. But that effort paid off in a big way.
The Indiana Law Enforcement Accreditation Commission awarded accreditation status to the Terre Haute Police Department yesterday at the Indiana Association of Chief of Police Conference in Indianapolis. Today, acting-chief of police Shawn Keen was joined by mayor Duke Bennett to present their certification.
“This was completely voluntary, this was not something that was forced upon us, not something we’re going to get a big check for, just a voluntary means by which we could show basically accountability to ourselves as well as the community,” Keen said.
Part of the updated policies include better communication with the community. Four officers will undergo training next week to rotate on-call shifts to provide police information to the public.
