TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – A Terre Haute woman is facing charges after an investigation into child abuse.
The investigation resulted in the arrest of a mother Shanah Howell, who is accused of allowing her boyfriend to abuse her children.
Court documents described several incidents over the course of three years in which the boyfriend was accused of beating the children, including stomping on them, biting one child, picking one child up by the hair and striking another child in the hand with a hammer.
One incident described in court documents alleged a child was kept in their bedroom for a month, fed only peanut butter sandwiches and was forced to use the bathroom in a bucket that was emptied twice a day.
Drug use by both Howell and her boyfriend was also mentioned in court documents.
Howell was charged with two counts of neglect of a dependent. An investigation into the boyfriend is ongoing.
