Terre Haute mayor Duke Bennett weighs in in Indiana Town Hall Wednesday

INDIANAPOLIS (WTWO/WAWV) — Leaders from around the state of Indiana weighed in during a virtual town hall tonight.

Terre Haute mayor Duke Bennett was among mayors from Indianapolis, South Bend, Evansville and other Indiana communities.

Our sister station Fox 59 in Indianapolis hosted the town hall. Mayor Bennett weighed in on a few topics.

By a show of hand, Mayor Bennett indicated that he does not think masks should be mandatory at local businesses, that he did not feel comfortable that businesses have enough access to PPE and that he does believe COVID-19 will have a lasting financial impact on the community.

When asked directly if the should city should receive more federal financial assistance to help out, Mayor Bennett said ‘no.’

We’re ok, and I’m not looking for any assistance from the federal government, other than a reimbursement for those expenses that are directly related to this pandemic.”
