Terre Haute gets a taste of Harlem’s Style and Rhythm

A very popular musical ballet group is in town to put on a show; and one of their directors decided to give local dancers a taste of the professional world.

On Monday night, The Academy of Dance in Terre Haute welcomed Virginia Johnson, Artistic Director of the “Dance Theater of Harlem.” She stopped by to give a master class of local students who are learning ballet.

The “Dance Theater of Harlem” is a very prestigious ballet company, that was founded in the 1960’s in New York City.

They are in town to perform at Rose Hulman Institute of Technology.

The owner of the dance academy saysthis is a very good opportunity for potential dancers.

“Oh it’s a great opportunity for the students, a great educational opportunity for them to learn from somebody that’s not their regular ballet teacher. To learn styles beyond what they know, or hear it in a different voice.” – Patti Willey / Owner, Academy of Dance

The Dance Theater of Harlem will be performing Tuesday night at Rose Hulman’s Hatfield Hall at 7:30 pm.
