Terre Haute City Council votes 8-1 to close portion of 8th Street

News

In an 8-1 vote, the Terre Haute City Council voted for the closing of a portion of 8th Street between Cherry Street and Wabash Avenue.

Indianapolis company, A & F Engineering conducted a traffic study for the project.

The impact study shows that a Courtyard by Marriott hotel would be just north of the convention center. A hotel parking garage would be to the west and the convention center parking garage to the east. This would encompass an area between Wabash Avenue, Cherry and 7th and 9th streets.

A& F Engineering came back to answer questions about what would happen if both the Hulman Center and Convention Center held events at the same time. According to the group, even if both facilities were to have an event, the traffic would be manageable and not as bad as the worst case scenario that the original report gave.

Councilman Todd Nation was the only one that said no.
