TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – More than 100 people came out to enjoy the fun and festivities a Terre Haute church had to offer.
Second Missionary Baptist Church held a Family and Friends Free Festival on Saturday. This was an event where children going back to school could get free school supplies.
They were also giving away free food from their pantry to anyone that wanted it, and they hosted residents for a lunch on Sunday.
This event was deemed very successful by members of the church as there was said to be over 90 backpacks, along with other supplies, given away at this event.
J.S. Barleston Jr. is the pastor of this church, and he expresses his love for doing events like this for the community.
“It means the world to me because we are able to get out of the four walls. We are able to come out. We are able to shake hands. We are able to kiss the babies. We are able to laugh and talk and be able to have a good time outside of church service,” he said.
He also wanted to express his gratitude that they are able to do something so special at this church.
“We want the community to know that we love them and appreciate them and to let them know that we are humans just like them. Most importantly, it allows us to welcome them to our church,” Barleston added.
This church hosts their Sunday School services at 9:45 and their Worship service at 11:00 am every Sunday.
