Ten voting centers announced

The voting centers for the 2019 election year have been announced and the locations are exciting news for some voters.

“I think the way we set this up there is no excuse for you not to be able to vote,” Vigo County Clerk Brad Newman said.

The voting centers for the 2019 election years have been announced.

On the list was the campus of Indiana State University, which brought cheers to those in attendance.

Earlier this year the Vigo County Election Board decided not to use the center after encountering problems with long lines, verbal abuse and more directed toward volunteers.

Newman said after hearing voters’ concerns and working with other officials the board decided to bring the center back to ISU.

“I think this could be a real positive in the future,” Newman said. “I think there’s somethings that we need to work through, and we are working through it.”

In a statement to WTWO, ISU officials stated, ” With the success of the 2018 Vote Center, Indiana State University is happy to host a vote center for the upcoming election and have extended an invitation to do so for every election,” said Nancy Rogers, Vice President for the Division of University Engagement at Indiana State University. “I look forward to engaging in more conversations with the Clerk’s office, along with representatives of the ISU Student Government Association, in the near future to make sure the voting center runs smoothly for citizens and election workers. For the 2019 election, as with any election, we will be focused on providing opportunities and information for students to register to vote and engage with local candidates and issues.

Also, for the first-time voters will be able to cast ballots at Honey Creek Mall.

“It’s a 28-day location, it’s got ADA compliance, perfect parking, people are in out of the elements,” Newman said.

In addition, there are other locations that are familiar to voters including the Vigo County Annex and Vigo County Library.

No matter the location officials stress the importance of voting.

“You know there’s free transportation day of,” Newman said. “We’ve got locations located North, South, East and West. I mean I don’t know how we can make it any easier.”

As we mentioned, Honey Creek Mall will be a voting location.

We tried to get a comment from mall officials, but we have yet to hear back.
