There is an important notice for fish tank owners in Clay City.

The Town of Clay City is in the process of renovating its water treatment plant.

A temporary filtration unit has been installed with liquid chlorine (disinfectant) and phosphate (iron and manganese sequestrant) treatment.

Due to the new filters, the town is switching from Free Chlorine to Chloramine disinfection, per IDEM guidelines IAC 8-2. IDEM has been notified and approved of this change.

Liquid chlorine will combine with naturally occurring ammonia from the well, creating chloramines.

This IDEM approved disinfectant may affect fish owners. Fish tank owners will want to use an alternative source of water to fill fish tanks during this time.

Completion of the new plant is anticipated by the end of the year.
