TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – Today, Team of Mercy held their sixth annual Surviving the Color 5k run.

Team of Mercy is a non-profit organization that helps families in Vigo County who have lost loved ones to suicide.

All of the profits from today’s run will help these families with resources such as counseling and grief support.

Those with the organization say 21 people in Vigo County have died by suicide in the past year. They say this event also encourages others to reach out if they need help.

“People don’t realize that it’s such a problem and it also helps to end the stigma for mental health. People are more likely to reach out for help or start a conversation about suicide,” Mel Kirchner, Team of Mercy board member.

Staff with Team of Mercy say they set a goal to raise $50,000 during today’s 5K.
