Suspect taken into custody after hours-long standoff in Terre Haute

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Police said a man is in custody following a seven-hour standoff in Terre Haute Friday night.

Terre Haute police responded to the 2200-block of Sycamore Street at around 6 p.m in response to a protective order.

Officers said the suspect had several warrants and was found hiding in an attic after a search of the home.

The suspect then threatened to shoot officers if they came into the attic.

The THPD Special Response team was called to the scene after the suspect barricaded himself inside.

The man was eventually taken into custody and no one was harmed, which Terre Haute police said is the ultimate goal.

“At the end of the day, our SWAT team ended up going in the house. And you know what, everybody goes home safely including the suspect. And that’s what it’s all about,” said Officer Ryan Adamson.

Police say a woman who had the protective order against the suspect was removed from the home before their search.
