Sullivan, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) The Sullivan County Council is expected to vote Thursday night on whether to have an income tax increase.
Currently, Sullivan County has one of the lowest income tax rates in the state at .6%.
The council is looking at increasing it to 1.75%, which is about the state average.
The extra money would be used to build a new jail, improve roads and to offer retirement benefits to county workers.
The council meeting takes place Thursday at 7 p.m. in the the first floor courtroom.
Residents will be given time to speak before the vote.
