Local elementary students are learning about the importance of trees on this Arbor Day.
The Terre Haute Urban Forester presented a Tree City USA Flag to Sugar Grove Elementary.
The flag comes from the Arbor Day Foundation, which recognizes Terre Haute as a Tree City.
Officials say it’s important to teach how to plant and care for trees.
“Get the students to know the importance of the environment and that we need to care for it, so we can continue to live in a healthy environment,” says Urban Forester Paul Lindeman. “We reach out to the elementary schools and we continue to do that every year.”
This program travels to a different school in Terre Haute every year.
