The Marshall Community Pool has closed for the season.
What’s different about the pool this year, is that it could be its last.
“Everything has its expiration date,” Sara Tarble said. “And it’s just reached it.”
For the past year and a half , Sara Tarble and The Marshall Community Pool Fund, have been raising money to demolish the old pool and replace it with a new one.
“Yes this is an awesome pool but the one we are going to build is going to serve a lot more needs of people,” Tarble said.
But the effort hit a wall recently, when construction bids came back too high.
“When the bids came back too high we felt we need to look at this again,” Tarble said. “We’re going to set out new bids then that will actually tell us as a fundraising committee how much we actually need. So we are on the home stretch of raising funds.”
The new facility will have new landscaping, concession stand, children’s pool, and a swim area twice the size of the old pool.
Something lifetime resident Logan Sanders is excited to see.
“So the pool for Marshall is more than just a pool, it’s one of our main attractions,” Logan Sanders said. “Being a small town we don’t have a lot of things in Marshall to do.”
And even though there is no definite timeline for when the project will be complete residents can hardly wait.
“What excites me most about the new pool is knowing that whenever I have kids I’ll be able to take my kids to the pool,” Sanders said. “And by having a new pool they can take their kids to the pool in Marshall.”
We may not know when the new pool will open, but we do know, the hometown colors of the pool will stay the same. Red and white to represent the colors of the Marshall lion.
