CLINTON, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – The State Road 163 bridge over the Wabash River in Clinton closed Wednesday night.
One lane of the bridge is expected to re-open on July 15th at 6 A.M.
It is part of a $5.3 million dollar project to replace and widen the bridge deck.
While the bridge is closed INDOT asks drivers to use U.S. 41 to U.S. 36 to State Road 63 and back.
First responders in the area say the closing of the bridge will be an inconvenience, but they have made arrangements to ensure safety.
“Our biggest concern is if we had a large scale incident where we’d have to call mutual aid. We do rely on some Parke County departments to assist us from time to time. We have mutual aid agreements with all the departments here and some in Vigo County. So we just have to rely on those for the five days since the Parke County departments and Lyford area would be unavailable to respond across the bridge,” said Chief Chris Strohm, City of Clinton Fire Department.
The project is expected to be completed by November 14th of this year.
