Squirrel to Blame for South Side Outage

Duke Energy officials say a squirrel is to blame for a power outage that affected nearly 5,000 customers.

It happened Tuesday afternoon at the Allendale Substation.

Officials say a squirrel got into the substation, knocking out four circuits.

The outage affected customers on Terre Haute’s south side.

It also affected traffic lights in the area, snarling traffic.

Power was restored by about 3 P.M.
