TERRE HAUTE, IND (WTWO/WAWV) Today marks day three of the Spread the Love food drive, aiming to help kids dealing with a shortage of food in the Wabash Valley.

According to the Sullivan Tobacco Prevention and Cessation (TPC) and Tobacco Free Vigo (TFV) Coalitions, 55% of Vigo County kids use a free or reduced lunch program.

“We wanted to help school-aged kids, we know there’s a big need for that in this area. We’re glad so many area agencies wanted to help out, ” Sarah Knoblock, Vigo County Tobacco Prevention and Cessation Coordinator, said.

Non-perishable food can be donated at barrels at any of these locations:

Starbucks
5510 E New Margaret Dr.
3017 S US Highway 41
2500 Wabash Ave.
4900 US-41 N

Baesler’s Market
2900 E Poplar St. in Terre Haute
277 S Section St. in Sullivan

Chances And Services for Youth (CASY):

At the Baesler’s locations, donors also have the option of purchasing ready to-go bags ranging from $5 to $10.

“Our coalition is really pleased. So many different community partners are helping out. It shows that when we work together, we can make a difference,” Knoblock said.

Donations are being accepted until Feb. 11. All items will be donated to local food pantries and a drive-thru pick-up is in the works after a location is secured.
