A lot of questions remain unanswered about a new Vigo County jail.

But the county council’s Budget Committee did recommend the council approve $5 million dollars to fund the initial plans for the new security center.

The committee did not recommend a motion to set the jail cost at $68 million dollars.

Instead, it voted to move the cost discussion to the full council meeting next month.

This came after hearing a lot of public comment about the new jail.

Committee President Jim Mann says, “As a government teacher at Terre Haute South I just love the participation for an hour. They spoke passionately, it was very important to them and I think that’s very welcome in our county.

Public comment covered the cost, location, timing and the deadline to devise a plan.

The Full council will address these issues on March 14, 2017, at the Vigo County Annex.
