The soup was on, at Maryland Community Church. It was the 6th annual Catholic Charities ‘Soup Bowl’ Event. Over 500 people, nearly 100 volunteers, and 30 different kinds of soup were at this traditional event. Folks could purchase handmade bowls, donated by local artists, then fill them with soups of their choosing.
For every 25 dollars collected it provides 100 Meals to hungry folks in the Community, through the Catholic Charities Food Bank. Over 43,000 folks in the Valley are food insecure, 13,500 of those are children, which is why events like these have such a lasting impact.
“I’ve had several individuals stop me and have said ‘I would not miss it, this is my sixth event and I’ll be back again next year’ so it means just as much to those individuals who are coming and buying their tickets, getting their bowl, and eating soup for the evening as it does to those in the Community they are helping,” says Jennifer Buell, Development Director for Catholic Charities.
Nearly 12,000 dollars was raised with all the proceeds going to the Catholic Charities Food Bank.
